Reeds

Use the navigation on the left to take a look at our reeds.

Reeds in the UK are often listed as sites of significant scientific interest (SSSI). They provide refuge and nesting sites for a number of extremely rare birds including the Marsh Harrier and the Bittern which depend entirely upon this habitat.

Reed beds are also becoming more and more popular in gardens as sewage treatment systems. Some reeds transfer oxygen from their leaves through it's stem to it's root system (zhinosphere). This high level of oxygen in the zhinosphere attracts a large number of micro-organisms to the system which break down the waste products without any man made chemical intervention.
