A deciduous tree which flowers during June, its leaves (which are similar to that of an Ash tree) open just after the flowers.

The nuts with which most people are familiar ripen in October.

Folklore held that the nut could cure mental disorders because it looked like the human brain! Well grown timber is very valuable and used for high quality furniture.

Walnut requires well-drained soil and prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils.

Walnut dislikes

It is not tolerant of heavy shade.
