Rowan
Sorbus aucuparia
Also known as Mountain Ash, the Rowan is a small/ medium tree which is found in temperate European countries from Iceland to Russia and as far south as Spain and Portugal.
In Britain this tree survives at higher altitudes than any other.It has pinnate leaves up to 9 pairs and has white flowers and bright red berries. It is hardy and doesn't mind the cold so is widely planted to decorate streets and gardens.
It was once planted to protect farm cottages from witches you will still find it in many farm yards. Its berries can be made into a jelly.

It grows up to 20m (65ft).
