An evergreen tree which can also form a dense impenetrable hedge. It has glossy dark green spiny leaves and is slow to establish. It produces tiny white flowers in late spring followed by red berries in winter on pollinated female plants.

Prefers alkaline soils and will thrive in well drained soils.
Holly dislikes
Acid soils, chalky soils and very wet sites.
Growth
Can reach up to 10m (30ft).
