A deciduous tree that is also known as Quickthorn, Quick, or Maythorn and is the most common hedgerow species forming a dense hedge. Hawthorn leaves are oval, and deeply lobed.

It produces dense clusters of fragrant and very attractive white flowers in late springtime, followed by the characteristic red berries (Haws) providing food for birds in autumn and early winter.

Hawthorn likes

It is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. It is also suitable for coastal areas and exposed sites.

Hawthorn dislikes

Heavy shade.

Growth

Can reach up to 14m (45ft).
